Ezekiel 6:9

“Then your survivors will remember Me among the nations where they are taken captive,

how I was crushed by their promiscuous hearts that turned away from me

and by their eyes that lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves because of the evil things they did, their abominations of every kind.”

“How I was crushed.” God? The Almighty One? The Eternal One? The God Who Is, “crushed” by the failure of human hearts to love Him? How can this be?

Peter Kreeft said once that “We sin for no reason but an incomprehensible lack of love, and He saves us for no reason but an incomprehensible excess of love.”

This verse reminds me that, strange as it may seem, mortality is capable of hurting immortality – crushing, in fact. What sort of God is this who allows humanity the opportunity to harm Him, all the while knowing that we will?
